Bat Houses on the Barn The above barn sits on part of the Sandbar Wildlife Management Area land. There are 6 bat houses attached to the side of the barn.
As evening fell during the bat survey volunteers watched these bat houses and few locations on the barn in an attempt to count how many bats were living in the houses and the barn. The darker it got the harder it became to count the bats as they emerged from the houses. Dark colored bats flying against a dark sky with little ambient light are hard to see. The volunteers did their best and counted approximately 350 bats as they left to forage for bugs. |
