Anabat Detector To assist in bat identification researchers use an Anabat Detector to record and identify bat echolocation. The Anabat Detector consists of a specialized bat detector hook to a computer.
The computer has software on it that records bat echolocation sounds and translates them into a visual pattern. The pattern displays the frequency of the sounds and the length of the clicks and pauses. The frequency and clicks are unique to each species of bat. Here we see a researcher from the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department explaining the Anabat Detector results to two of the volunteers at Shelburne Farms. |
