Why "Bat Approved" Certification is Important

Bat Conservation International (BCI) is one of the worlds leading organizations dedicated to the preservation and conservation of bats and bat habitats. BCI is the authority on North American bats.

BCI has established the Bat House Certification Program with the goal of promoting proper bat house designs. From the data collected by the thousands of volunteers in the BCI North American Bat House Research Project (NABHRP) BCI has developed a set of criteria for a properly designed bat house. These criteria are used to evaluate bat houses submitted for approval under this program. They set requirements for the height and width of roosting chambers, overall width of the house, landing pad size, the surface of the roosting chambers and landing pad, type of nails and screws, size and location of air vents, type of materials used in construction, and overall quality of workmanship.

Chiroptera Cabin Company is one of only a small group of bat house manufacturers that has been awarded the "Bat Approved" certification for our bat houses. And we have now had ALL OUR HOUSE DESIGNS "Bat Approved"!

There are many companies that mass-produce bat houses using inexpensive materials, poor construction and bad designs. These houses have little chance of being occupied by bats, since they do not include the characteristics that the current research shows that bats prefer.

Chiroptera Cabin Company makes nothing but Bat Houses. We have received the "Bat Approved" certification because we make quality houses that meet or exceed the BCI standards.

As members of the BCI Bat House Research Project we continue to work with BCI on designs for better bat houses. As additional research data is analyzed we review every aspect of our designs, from materials to color, to be sure they meet the needs of our chiroptera cuties.

We hope you will join us in supporting Bat Conservation International and their efforts.
